Contact lenses "helped make Dracula great"

The contact lenses worn by Christopher Lee when he portrayed Dracula on the big screen helped to make the movie one of the most iconic vampire films ever.

That is according to the Mirror, which recently compiled a list of the best five vampires movies of all time.

With Robert Pattinson recently garnering headlines through his portrayal of Stephenie Meyer's Edward Cullen in the Twilight films, vampire films are arguably more en vogue than ever.

According to the Mirror, however, Christopher Lee's 1958 version of Dracula is one the best in the genre.

"Christopher Lee donned fangs and red contact lenses to play Bram Stoker's garlic-averse nobleman in the first of Hammer's seven Dracula movies," the newspaper stated.

However, the top spot was reserved for FW Murnau's 1922 classic Nosferatu, in which Max Shreck portrays the terrifying Count Orlock with relish in a picture which broke new ground in the genre and "chills even today".ADNFCR-1853-ID-800118972-ADNFCR
