Rugby stars promote eyesight initiative

29.02.2012

By Alexa Kaczka

A new initiative has been launched to help identify eyesight problems in young people, with a number of rugby stars joining in the effort.

The scheme saw 400 schoolchildren from Mount Isa, near Brisbane, given the chance to have their eyes tested, with the reward being that they got to meet two of the National Rugby League's top stars, ABC reported.

After having their vision inspected, the youngsters were given the chance to meet Trent Barrett, one of the all-time great stand-offs who played for m the St George Illawarra Dragons, Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks and Wigan Warriors, and David Peachey, one of Cronulla's greatest ever players.

"One Vision is responsible for the program and all of the volunteers work in the eye industry in one shape or form and give up their annual leave to be a part of projects like this," the source explained.

Any children found to have defective vision are immediately referred for treatment, while some are even given vision correction on the spot, if their eyesight is weak enough.ADNFCR-1853-ID-801306274-ADNFCR
