Paris Fashion Week Closed With Touching Blind Fashion Show

26.10.2016

This year's Paris Fashion Week closed with a very moving event dedicated to all people who suffer from blindness or partial blindness. The final day of this fashion festival hosted an event called Blind Fashion Show. This event featured many visually impaired models walking down the catwalk with no canes and no seeing-eye dogs. All of the models were only helped by a thin fish wire placed at the edges of the catwalk.

Every single model in this event wore some of the most trendy high fashion outfits of this year. Also, many attendees at the event wore black blindfolds to show support and to raise public awareness of the issues visually impaired people face daily. Some men even wore these blindfolds and walked down the catwalk themselves to experience what these brave models went through under the spotlight.

The models at this event were very proud to walk down one of the most famous catwalks in the world. They hope that this Blind Fashion Show will challenge stereotypes people often have about people with visual impairments both within the modeling industry and in society at large.

This event was created by the famous French-Algerian fashion entrepreneur Myriam Chalek. Chalek told reporters that she wanted this event to open people's hearts to women suffering from eye diseases. She also hopes this event will empower women all around the world, especially those with some kind of disability, to rise to the occasion with grace and dignity.

Although this event has been going on for a few years, it did not originate in Paris. The first Blind Fashion Show was actually given in NYC. After this year's highly successful Blind Fashion Show, there is no sign that this event will be taken away in future fashion weeks anywhere in the world.

Some of the major brands featured at this year's Paris Fashion Week and Blind Fashion Show included designs by Louis Vuitton, Dior, and Miu Miu. It also featured the return of famous Belgian fashion designer Olivier Theyskens.

Organizers of the Blind Fashion Show believe that people will walk away from this event with a better understanding of the prevalence of visual impairments in the local community. Not only do organizers want people to think of the issues that come from full blindness, but also the more prevalent eye problems that can significantly impact a person's quality of life. Some of these other eye issues include glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and albinism.
