There is increasing risk of :microbial contamination from tap water, particularily a tough organism named "acanamoeba" which can survive even chlorinated tap water, and although rare, a devestating eye infection. In my practice I always advise the use of saline for rinsing lenes, even hard ones. As far as your lens case, you probobly stand a much better chance of contamination from an unwashed case as you do from washing it in water. use very hot water, and scrub occasionally with an old toothbrush, then air-dry it. most cases are manufactured to be boilable. (not with the lenses in it)
