'Own Brand' lenses are an attempt by the large multiple chains of Optometrists, mainly in the UK, to limit your choice of lens and to lock you into their supply system. As a result they often do not offer the best value for money. These companies take well known brands of lenses (Cibavision, Bausch & Lomb, Coopervision etc) and repackage them in their own company boxes.

In the past this locks you into your high street optician, as it was very difficult to find  out which lens you were really on.  There are price savings of up to 70% on high street prices - but the customer could not beenfit from this as they could not work out what to order.

It also suited the high street opticians that they tied you into a direct debit, which certainly does not suit everyone.

The internet now makes it easy to find out which lens you are on and to order them as and when you want at discount prices.
