New contact lenses designed for sufferers of keratoconus have been unveiled in the US.
The new hybrid contact lenses from SynergEyes have a limited availability in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico.
SynergEyes says that the ClearKone contact lenses have a "unique design" and are easier to fit that other contact lenses designed for the ailment.
A "hybrid skirt curve" design is said to make the contact lenses more comfortable to wear as well as easier to take out.
Optics are centres over the visual axis even though there is a conical shape to the eye.
In addition, SynergEyes says the contact lenses allow a high transmission of oxygen.
The company claims that its contact lenses give patients the comfort of soft lenses along with a rigid centre that is highly permeable to oxygen.
In addition, it produces contact lenses for other conditions such as presbyopia, myopia and astigmatism as well.
