Contact lenses can be very convenient but there are some tips that may help should any discomfort be felt.
According to US advice website All About Vision, it is worth visiting an optician if you have any concerns because, as with other parts of the body, problems can worsen if they are left untreated.
But applying contact lenses in the correct way can help. Wash hands thoroughly before putting the lenses in but avoid using heavily scented or oily soap, as this can stick to the surface of the eyewear.
The same goes for removing the lenses, although it is suggested that a paper towel is placed over the drain if they are being removed over a sink. This way, if the lens is dropped there is less chance of it falling down the plughole.
And for those who worry - it is a myth that people have lost contact lenses around the back of their eyeballs, the website states.
"This is actually impossible because of a membrane that connects your eye to the back of your eyelid," it adds.
