New, improved products "drive contact lens market"

New and improved products are the driving force in the contact lens industry.

This is the claim made by an anonymous member of the Gerson Lehrman Group (GLG) Healthcare Councils.

According to the expert, such products "are what drives the market and doctors are always interested in upgrading their patients to the latest technology".

The report also cited independent market research figures to show that Johnson & Johnson has 44 per cent of the US contact lens market, with Ciba Vision claiming 22 per cent, Cooper Vision taking 16 per cent and Bausch & Lomb following with 14 per cent.

It said that new products, such as Ciba Vision"s revamped silicone hydrogel lenses are taking some of the market power away from Johnson & Johnson.

Recent products from Johnson & Johnson include Clean & Clear Soothing Eye Makeup Remover and the RoC Complete Lift Eye Pen.

The latter is claimed to help reduce puffiness around the eyes and lift and firm the skin.
