Darren Bent recently "tweeted" a picture of himself wearing a pair of night vision goggles.
The England and Sunderland striker, who is the third highest scorer in the Barclays Premier League this season, with eight goals, posted a picture of himself on the social networking site with the caption: "Mw2 night vision goggles ha ha ha."
He was branded "the Stephen Fry of the football world, such is his appetite for posting banal details of his life of Twitter" by the Mirror.
Included with the video game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 deluxe edition, the goggles are not just a toy they actually allow the wearer to see in the dark.
And such gimmicks allowed the recently-released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to become the highest-earning entertainment launch ever, selling 4.7 million copies in one day and earning $310 million (£186 million) in the US and Britain alone, according to its publisher, Activision.
