Losing his sight has not prevented long-distance runner Henry Wanyoike from achieving success within his chosen sport.

The 35-year-old lost his vision 15 years ago but has since won two Paralympics gold medals and will take part in the 10km Dubai Marathon, along with his guide and old friend Joseph Kibunja.

It is the second time the pair have competed in the race, having finished second overall with a time of 33 minutes and 34 seconds three years ago.

Speaking to the National, Wanyoike said: "We are aiming to finish the Dubai race in 35 to 38 minutes," adding that their best time on a 10km track is 31 minutes.

He added that when he first lost his sight it was very difficult to run, especially as it took him a long time to find a good guide.

The 10km Dubai Marathon gets underway tomorrow (January 22nd) alongside the 42.195km full Marathon and 3km fun run.
