Paul O"Connell, the Irish rugby player, has joined-up with Ultralase to become its new ambassador in Ireland.

The British and Irish Lions captain joins other sports stars such as Jonathan Edwards and Steve Redgrave as endorsers of laser eye surgery.

O"Connell played for the majority of Ireland"s 29-11 Six Nations victory over Italy at Croke Park on Saturday (February 6th).

The Munster captain said: "Laser eye treatment has made a huge difference to my life and the results have been life changing both on and off the field."

Ultralase chief executive Tony Veverka said: "We are thrilled to have the endorsement of Paul who is without a doubt one of Ireland"s most talented sportspeople."

Tennis star Justine Henin had laser eye surgery on both eyes during a 20-month break from the game but subsequently suffered from blurring and wore a contact lens on her return to action in Australia recently.
