People who wear contact lenses but want to provide their eyes with further protection should ensure that they choose sunglasses which offer adequate protection from the sun"s UV rays, it ahs been claimed.
Dr Vanessa Ewing, an optometrist with the Bennett & Bloom Eye Centers, said it is important to provide complete eye protection when investing in the eyewear, so wraparound sunglasses are a good idea.
Alternatively, the expert said that people should look for a brand which promises to block out 97 per cent or more of the sun"s rays.
"Just like you can get sunburned, you can get a cornea burn as well," she warned.
It comes after Dr Stephen Trokel, an attending ophthalmologist at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center, recently said that people should be aware of the potential dangers which UV light creates and aim to invest in pair of sunglasses which offers adequate protection, even if they already wear contact lenses.
