People who wear contact lenses must be careful when handling and storing the products, one expert has claimed.
Himal Kandel, from the Institute of Medicine, Tribhuvan University, said it is essential that wearers follow the manufacturer"s instructions when inserting contact lens and storing them, as this reduces the risk of infection.
"Before touching the contact lens or one"s eyes, it is important to thoroughly wash and rinse hands with a soap that doesn"t contain moisturisers or allergens such as fragrances," he explained.
The expert added that the technique for removing or inserting a contact lens varies slightly depending upon whether the lens is soft or rigid, so people need to bear this in mind for maximum safety and ensure the lenses are comfortable.
Dr Vanessa Ewing, an optometrist with the Bennett & Bloom Eye Centers, recently said that the majority of people who wear contact lenses follow the instructions properly and suffer no ill effects, but added it is still essential to take care when inserting and removing them.
