Silicone hydrogel continues to be the most popular material in the Contact lens market, according to a recent report.
The Global Industry Analysts" (GIA"s) Global Report on Contact Lenses and Solutions Markets reveals that, over time, silicone hydrogel is expected to replace the conventional materials used in contact lenses for both continuous and daily wear.
GIA added that, while sales of silicone hydrogel lenses are continuing to increase worldwide, so are the studies researching different silicone hydrogel materials
"Contact lens makers are increasingly recognizing the significance of higher oxygen permeability and water content. Indeed, most leading companies are patenting their own silicone hydrogel material to gain edge in the global market," it said.
Recently, Myrepublica.com reported that the contact lenses market continues to expand in Asia as more people realise the benefits of vision correction.
According to the source, countries such as Nepal are seeing a huge rise in the number of people wearing contact lenses as opposed to other forms of vision correction, such as glasses.
