Contact lenses help Robert Pattinson prepare for Twilight

Coloured contact lenses play a key role in helping Robert Pattinson to get into the mood to play his Twilight character Edward Cullen, the actor has revealed.

The 24-year-old star, who has become a global heartthrob thanks to his roles in Twilight, New Moon and the latest movie Eclipse, said he is only able to truly get into character when the lenses go in and he adopts the look of the vampire.

"My contact lenses transform me. They make me miserable. They create the pouting and brooding character," he explained.

Normally, Pattinson has blue eyes but in order to play a vampire he inserts the black and gold ones before the start of every scene to achieve the look that makes the ladies swoon.

Pattinson is not the only one to use contact lenses to transform into a sinister character in recent months, as Jackie Earle Haley recently revealed that the products were a key part of his transformation into horror icon Freddy Krueger in the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street.
