Contact lens wearers have been informed that they may have an advantage when it comes to spotting the signs of cataracts early.
The American Academy of Ophthalmology has advised contact lens wearers that they can spot the condition by keeping track of how often they have to change the prescription of their lenses.
According to Allan Encarnacion, a certified senior advisor in San Mateo, people who need to frequently change their prescription or glasses may be in the later stages of the condition, though this can be treated effectively.
"Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness worldwide; however, in most cases, vision loss from cataracts is reversible," the expert explained.
