People who wear contact lenses have been advised to pack eye drops when heading away in the coming weeks, in order to ensure maximum comfort when travelling.
Writing un the Daily Mail, Andrena McElvanney, an ophthalmologist at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals, said that many contact lens wearers forget to pack eye drops when travelling, even though they can increase comfort considerably during plane journeys.
She explained: "Take some eye drops - the humidity on aircrafts can make eyes feel dry and gritty, especially for those who have had eye surgery or wear contact lenses."
Ms McElvanney added that opting for contact lenses which do not contain preservatives is a good idea for those with sensitive eyes.
Holidaymakers were recently given advice by the Omaha World Herald, which said that the only way of truly preventing exposure when out in the sun is to wear a pair of sunglasses which offer full or almost full UV protection - even if the individual already wears UV contact lenses.
