Expert: Remove contact lenses before flying

One sector expert has advised people to remove their contact lenses before flying away on holiday this summer.

Mondial Assistance said that many people forget to remove contact lenses before the plane takes off and are therefore subject to dry eyes when the cabin pressurises and the plane reaches high altitude.

The firm advised: "Drink at least one litre of water every four hours, remove your contact lenses or moisten them regularly with saline solution, or apply anti-inflammatory disinfectant eye ointment recommended by your ophthalmologist."

"Drink at least one litre of water every four hours, remove your contact lenses or moisten them regularly with saline solution, or apply anti-inflammatory disinfectant eye ointment recommended by your ophthalmologist," it recommended.

Further holiday advice was recently issued by Dr Luisa Dillner, writing in the Guardian, who compiled a checklist of things which people need to take away in order to protect themselves, with UV-protection sunglasses being high on the agenda.
