Abbott has recalled its contact lens solution in some parts of the Middle East and Europe, the latest reports suggest.
According to the Wall Street Journal, loose-fitting caps on the bottles could affect the lifespan and sterility of the products and potentially put customers at risk.
So far the manufacturer stated that there have been no reported adverse events, illnesses or injuries associated with the problem, which has affected its Complete Multi-Purpose Solution and Total Care (1) Contact Lens Solution.
The newspaper explained: "The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency in the UK issued an alert on Friday noting the recall and said products in affected lots should not be used. The issue is related to a potential leak in the flip-top caps, not the solutions themselves."
Earlier this summer, a safety notice issued by Abbott's eye-care unit, revealed that five affected lots of the Complete Multi-Purpose product and one affected lot of the Total Care product had been discovered.
