Sunglasses should be an essential part of any child's outfit when they are exposed to the sun, one source has advised.
The Malaysian Star explained that children's eyes are particularly susceptible to the harmful UV rays of the sun and warned adults that they need to take measures to protect their offspring's vision.
It explained: "The sun's UV light is just too intense and although we do not see the damage now, there is a cumulative effect which will be evident in later years."
The source added that, if sunglasses are too expensive, then a cap will suffice, as long as parents ensure that youngsters are not exposed to the sun for a prolonged period of time.
Recently, Dr Luisa Dillner, writing in the Guardian, compiled a checklist of things that people need to take away on holiday in order to protect themselves, with sunglasses being high on the agenda.
