Abbott has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for RevitaLens Ocutec, a next-generation multi-purpose disinfecting solution for silicone hydrogel and conventional soft contact lenses.
According to the organisation, the contact lens solution delivers high-quality disinfection and comfort in a single bottle and was developed in conjunction with world-class silicone hydrogel, microbiology and chemistry experts, as well as receiving input from over 600 eyecare professionals.
Jim Mazzo, senior vice president at Abbott Medical Optics, said the solution establishes a "new standard" of disinfecting technology for contact lens wearers.
"Proper contact lens care, including a rub and rinse regimen using RevitaLens Ocutec, will help patients achieve clean and comfortable lenses while enhancing overall lens-wearing satisfaction," he explained.
Meanwhile, multi-purpose contact lenses solution manufacturers may soon be offering different guidance after recommendations were issued b the US Center for Devices and Radiological Health regarding 'no rub' wording, according to reports from Optician Online.
