Coloured contact lenses can help people to get into the Halloween spirit this weekend but wearers must take care, one source has warned.
Dr Brian Puent of the Eyecare Center of Wausau, said that many people will be investing in themed or coloured contact lenses over the weekend in an attempt to look frightening or peculiar, but these can present risks if not legitimate products.
He told WSAW.com: "I generally tell people to keep in mind they are a medical device, and there are risks. If you order them online and they don't ask for a prescription then it's probably not a reliable source."
Dr Puent also advised people to follow all manufacturer instructions closely, even with legitimate products, to remain perfectly safe when wearing the lenses.
Recently, Parwez Hossain, a consultant ophthalmologist at Southampton General Hospital's eye unit, told the Daily Telegraph that many people will make the mistake of wearing contacts which do not properly fit their eyes, which can cause injury.
