One health expert has issued a number of tips to help people keep their eyes in good shape this festive season.
Writing for Wales Online, Sara Ward, an optometrist and contact lens practitioner, said that many people neglect to look after their eyes during the party season when a combination of bad weather, late nights and alcohol can take their toll.
She noted that, as alcohol dehydrates the body, it is important to drink plenty of water to prevent dry eyes.
Likewise, even if people have had a lot to drink they must not forget to take out their contact lenses before going to sleep, she added.
"For the ladies, it is also important to take your make-up and false eyelashes off properly before bed to make sure the area around the eye is clear from build-up and products," Ms Ward advised.
Meanwhile, Seattle Children's paediatric ophthalmologist Dr Francine Baran recently told King5.com that, as an increasing number of children and teens are beginning to wear contact lenses instead of glasses, it is very important that they are aware of safety procedures.
