J&J supports sport "but not the Olympics"

Health care and vision company Johnson & Johnson (J&J) will not renew its sponsorship contract with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), it has said.

J&J - which makes 1 Day Acuvue Moist contact lenses - will now see its deal with the IOC expire at the end of the year.

It is the fourth games" sponsor to leave the IOC programme, which sees corporate agreements last over four years and two games.

Sporting investment of this kind was appropriate for J&J - many athletes choose to use contact lenses because they cannot get broken, fall off or mist up.

In addition, they give excellent peripheral vision - something glasses fail to do.

J&J spokesperson Lorie Gawreluk told the Sports Business Journal the company had been a "proud" sponsor of the Beijing games.

"We are not renewing that sponsorship to enable us to focus on other business priorities," she added.

J&J contact lenses can be bought online with a prescription.
