Contact lens company"s sports initiative is boosted

The sports initiative being rolled out by contact lens manufacturer CooperVision has received a further investment boost.

A further $25,000 (£16,000) has been pledged by CooperVision to its Gear Up Grant, which promotes the importance of eyecare among schoolchildren and also helps to provide athletic equipment.

The scheme was launched last July in a bid to help teenagers learn more about the relationship between healthy vision and sports performance and is open to students between the ages of 13 and 19, who wrote stories explaining why they should receive the grant.

Dennis Murphy, president of the Americas region for CooperVision, said the success of the initiative has led to further funding being made available: "CooperVision is excited to see the positive impact of both the grant money and contacts on our winning teams. We wish them the best."
