Book of recipes "reduces eyesight risk"

A recipes book has been published which its author claims could help to reduce people"s risk of deteriorating eyesight.

Laura C Martin"s book, Green Market Baking Book: 100 Delicious Recipes for Naturally Sweet & Savory Treats, is made up of recipes that use only natural sweeteners.

"This is how we all should bake and how our mothers should have baked," USA Weekend reports Ms Martin as saying.

She went on to say that refined sugar can increase people"s risk of developing diabetes, poor eyesight, eczema and yeast infections.

Her recipes rely on sweeteners such as honey, agave nectar, brown rice syrup and barley malt syrup.

Maple syrup also features in many of Ms Martin"s recipes as one of the least caloric natural sweeteners.

According to ehow.com, people who want to keep their eyesight in the best possible condition should avoid caffeine, as this can deplete vitamins and minerals from the body, including the ones necessary for healthy eyes.
