Bausch and Lomb"s vice-president of global research and development in vision care, Dr Joseph Barr, has been recognised by the European Federation of the Contact Lens Industry (EFCLIN) for his work with contact lenses.
Dr Barr was named by the organisation as being the 2008 recipient of the prestigious award for his outstanding contributions to the contact lens industry.
According to EFCLIN, Dr Barr was chosen specifically for his continued commitment to education, professional publications and lectures.
These works have helped to advance the fitting of contact lenses, EFCLIN stated.
Each year the organisation honours the work of an individual whose "selfless contributions have made a lasting and positive effect on the industry".
Prior to joining Bausch & Lomb in July 2007, Dr Barr worked as an associate dean at the Ohio State University College of Optometry.
Bausch & Lomb makes soft and rigid gas permeable contact lenses and lens care products, plus ophthalmic surgical and pharmaceutical products.
Its contact lenses are available to buy online.
