New lenses "will assist presbyopic people"

A range of contact lenses launched by Unilens will help to significantly assist people with presbyopia, or the inability to focus on close objects, according to one expert.

Michael Pecora, chief executive officer of Unilens Vision, said that the launch of the company"s new C-VUE Advanced HydraVUE customised silicone hydrogel products will help to boost treatments for the condition, which can severely hamper quality of life in sufferers.

"As the growth rate of the presbyopic population continues to exceed that of America"s population as a whole, the new HydraVUE product offerings and risk-free trial programme will provide independent practitioners with additional specialty contact lens options," he explained.

Mr Pecora added that the new lenses will also contribute to patient retention, as well as correcting their vision.

The announcement comes after Biolase Technology revealed that it received a US patent covering the use of its laser technologies for treating presbyopia.
