Contact lens manufacturer Menicon, the largest producer of the items in Japan, has opened a new production facility at the International Business Park in Jurong East, Malaysia.
The $123 million facility (£75 million) is 6,000 sq m in and employs 79 workers, and will be used to manufacture contact lenses, as well as conducting research and development into the technology.
Chief executive Hidenari Tanaka said the plant will be the company's base for developing technologies and products with "advanced, value-added features" to help the organisation gain a greater market share.
"Singapore is a stable and safe country with outstanding quality of leadership and government, a conducive business environment, good workforce, attractive incentives, advanced medical technologies and a high standard of living," he said.
Last November, Menicon announced a new agreement with Optimed Ltd to become the exclusive distributor for its CAPTIV8 communication services and i-Vue content-driven digital signage software for North America.
