US consumers are the target of a new awareness campaign designed to teach them about age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
The eye disease "eats away at your vision from the inside out" and is the biggest cause of sight loss in the country for over-65s, said EyeCare America.
According to the organisation, which is offering eye tests and information related to the condition, the results of AMD can be devastating.
"There is no cure for AMD, but early detection and treatment may lessen sever vision loss and slow the progression of the disease," remarked Dr William Tasman, EyeCare America chair of the initiative.
Whether it is to check for signs of AMD or just to ensure your eyesight is in good health, an eye test is a good idea every two years or more.
