Contact lens wearers who experience an irritation of the eyes due to a lack of moisture have been told that there are various options available to them.
Larry Benjamin, chair of the Education Committee of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, said that there are around 20 to 30 different lubricants on the market which deal specifically with dry eyes.
The condition is a mild one and many of the solutions offered by the high street and over the counter are good at treating it, the expert said, adding that doctors can also give a wealth of advice.
"People with dry eye that is symptomatic enough to get them to an eye department usually get a lot of information about the condition and its treatment," he explained.
Those wearing contact lenses looking to enjoy a summer without hayfever were recently told by Dr Sarah Brewer that essential oils like eucalyptus oil, juniper berry oil and cajuput can help to reduce the symptoms of the condition.
