Eye patients based in the Ontario region are likely to benefit from a new decision concerning medications, according to an expert from the Ontario Association of Optometrists (OAO).
The organisation's president Dr John Mastronardi responded positively to a decision which has been made by the Ontario government to let local optometrists prescribe medications.
He stated: "We are pleased that the Ontario government has made changes that will broaden access to medically necessary services across the province."
The commentator added: "Most of our members have been educated and trained to prescribe medications for years."
Under the new rules, the likes of glaucoma patients could be prescribed with medicines, along with those who experience conditions like bacterial infections, it is believed.
This month is also due to see the launch of the OAO's 2011 Symposium and Infomart.
The Caesars Windsor venue will play host to the event between April 28th and 30th.
