Contact lens wearers told how to relieve allergy symptoms

People who wear contact lenses have been given some advice about how to deal with allergies.

Spring is definitely upon us and for those who suffer from hay fever and allergies this can mean red, itchy and swollen eyes.

In an interview with NBC Los Angeles, Dr Harue Marsden, president of the California Optometric Association said that people with know their own eyes better than anyone else, however he warned off self diagnosis.

He said that using the wrong medicine can actually make symptoms worse in some cases and advised people with contact lenses to keep a bottle of sterile saline solution in the fridge to provide relief for sore eyes.

Dr Marsden told people to ensure hands are clean when touching their eyes and to visit an optician if symptoms persist "because your family's vision is too important to jeopardise".

Contact lens wearers need to be more careful about over-the-counter eye drops, but many are available that will clear allergens from the lens, Dr. Melissa Billings told Whotv.com.
