People who purchase their contact lenses online need to ensure that the products they are buying are the correct prescription, one expert on the subject has advised.
As people's eyesight can change and their vision correction requirements vary over time, it is important to keep up to date with prescriptions by going for regular eye tests and seeing opticians on a frequent basis, said Keith Tempany, an independent contact lens specialist.
"If someone then goes off and buys lenses from the internet for about two years without checking for updates on their prescription then that can cause problems," advised the expert, who picked up the contact lens practitioner of the year in the 2010 Optician Awards.
One way in which people can help to reduce risk when purchasing contact lenses online is to buy from a reputable seller, according to Dr Narong Leedasawat, president of the Association of Thai Optometrists, who said buyers should only purchase official products.
