Contact lens idea wins award

By Martin Burns

A novel idea for a multi-purpose contact lens has helped one student to win a prestigious entrepreneurial award.

Lindsay Weaver, a student at Bay Path College, came in first place in the Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation's Entrepreneurship Initiative for her Polar-EYES innovation, MassLive.com reported.

Her idea is a soft contact lens that not only provides UV protection from the sun when the wearer is outside, but also has the power of polarisation and can transition between light and dark environments, similar to how transition sunglasses work.

Ms Weaver won the award following a 90-second presentation - known as an elevator pitch because it is the same as the average amount of time taken to travel in a lift - briefly outlining her idea.
