The contact lenses market in the UK is continuing to grow as more people turn to the vision correction option, a new report has revealed.
Data compiled by the Association of Contact Lens Manufacturers and seen by Optician Online shows that the British contact lens market expanded by seven per cent last year, compared with 2009, and now stands at a total of £219.5 million.
In total, 557 million contact lenses were sold, with the most popular product by far being daily disposables, which represented almost 60 per cent of the market.
According to Optician Online, silicone hydrogel contact lenses represented just over a quarter of sales, with soft frequent replacements, rigid lenses and soft traditionals totalling 16 per cent of sales.
The global contact lens market is also continuing its exponential growth, with recent figures by market research firm GfK Asia revealing that sales of contact lenses in Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan increased by 12 per cent from the end of 2009 to the close of 2010.
