Actress Sylvia Sims has put her weight behind a campaign encouraging people to have regular eye tests to prevent falls around the home.
The 71-year-old actress has herself suffered a fall in recent times and blamed this on poor eyesight – something she is now hoping to raise awareness of by backing national Falls Awareness Week.
All week, people over the age of 60 are being encouraged to go for regular eye tests to help reduce the number of falls taking place around the home and the actress pointed out that this is major issue which some people often neglect.
"Falling over can really damage your confidence and limit your everyday life, and so I am hoping to encourage more people to take simple steps such as just making sure you go for a regular sight test," she said.
According to NHS figures, nearly four million people aged 60 and over have fallen in the last two years, in many cases due to poor eyesight.
