Toms charity initiative aims to save sight

A company which gained significant global attention by giving away free pairs of shoes to disadvantaged people for every pair sold at retail is now beginning to do the same with pairs of sunglasses.

Toms has revealed that its 'one-for-one' mission will be extended to eyecare with every pair of sunglasses it sells resulting in a pair being donated to the Seva Foundation to help people with vision problems in Nepal, Tibet and Cambodia, Nola.com reported.

The organisation, which was founded five years ago by Blake Mycoskie, aims to combine a charitable initiative with a profit-making model and the latest scheme is an extension of this, he said.

"Ever since 2007, I've realised the Toms One for One model could do more than give shoes. Sight is a fundamental need. The loss of sight has a dramatic impact on a person's life - and on his or her family and community," he explained.
