Another member has been added to Operation Eyesight, an organisation which aims to prevent and reverse blindness.
Ujjal Dosanjh, a former member of Canadian Parliament and premier of British Columbia, was elected to the board of directors of the Calgary-based, international, non-governmental organisation.
Accepting his appointment to the role, Mr Dosanjh commented: "I look forward to working with the board to ensure that this organisation has the resources it needs to continue to provide sight and hope to the poorest people in our world."
He added that he was proud to be part of Operation Eyesight's mission to eliminate avoidable blindness across the planet.
Raju Paul, chair of the board of directors at the organisation, said he was "delighted" to welcome Mr Dosanjh into the fold.
He added that his experience in government, particularly the health portfolio, and commitment to human rights and social justice will be "invaluable" as the organisation works to prevent blindness.
