Regular eye tests "are essential"

Regular eye tests "are essential"

It is essential that people undergo regular eye tests to identify any emerging health problems and to determine whether they will need contact lenses or glasses, an expert has claimed.

Richard Pakey, founder of Independent Practice Growth UK, has highlighted the fact that these tests go a lot further than determining whether a person can see properly.

He said that the optician will also conduct checks for glaucoma, cataracts and other eye diseases, as well as certain problems such as high blood pressure.

"With most eyesight or medical conditions, the earlier the condition is detected the more treatment options you have. With regular eye tests you’ll benefit from a number of essential health checks," he explained.

Mr Pakey added that the availability of hi-tech tests such as Retinal photographing, which is a detailed photographic image of the back of the eye, allows opticians to maintain a visual record of health over a number of years.

Interestingly, a report published by Which? found that the public is more likely to trust independent opticians than high street chains.
