Guide launched on eye processes

A guide is available that aims to make it easier for researchers to explore how the eyes operate, it has been revealed.

The Journal of General Physiology is to publish the Perspectives series, which will also include details on aural, olfactory and tactile processes.

Robert Farley and Alapakkam Sampath, two researchers from the University of California, Los Angeles, are producing the introduction to the series, which serves as a summary of the current information available on the topics.

The visual system section will focus on physiological mechanisms of sensor encoding, which is one of the areas that has been investigated most thoroughly.

They state: "The purpose of the Perspectives in General Physiology series is to provide an ongoing forum where scientific questions or controversies can be discussed by experts in an open manner."

In other news, recent research by the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center has established a link between glaucoma, hypertension and diabetes.
