Are paper eyelashes the future?

There has been an explosion in the popularity of false eyelashes in the last couple of years thanks to the popularity of TV shows glamorising heavy make up and accessories, and it seems the latest trend is for decorative, paper eyelash extensions.

The Daily Mail reported that the inspiration for these new designs appears to be Chinese paper art, and now companies such as Paper Self Store are designing ever more intricate means of enhancing the eye area.

With the likes of butterflies and thick, black, ringed designs, there are plenty of options for those looking for something different on a night out, the newspaper noted.

It added: "The lashes can be cut and worn in different ways. So you can put a butterfly on the corner of your eyes for a charming look or make a statement with a full set."

Last week, research carried out by Alibaba.com showed that companies have been cashing in on the desire for false eyelashes generated by the ITV2 show The Only Way is Essex, which has brought in huge viewing figures since the programme's launch.
