A top Australian Rules footballer has undergone laser eye surgery in a bid to help improve his focus both on and off the field.

Shaun Hampson, who plays for the Carlton Football Club in the Australian Football League, said he decide to undergo the procedure after it became clear that he was short-sighted, the Herald Sun reported.

As this could have an effect on his on-field performance, as well as his everyday life, laser eye surgery was one of the only options, and the results has been that his pre-season games went very smoothly.

"At night games I really struggled. But I have noticed since the surgery that at night it is much better. I've got perfect vision now. Now it's just a matter of practising marking until my hands fall off," the 23-year-old told the newspaper.

Hampson is not the only famous person to benefit from laser eye surgery recently, as many sportsmen and women have had the procedure, from football and rugby players to those that partake in swimming, snooker and darts, with many seeing the benefits immediately.
