Dame Judi Dench has revealed that she is to make her return to the West End stage, despite recently revealing that her deteriorating eyesight is making life more and more difficult for her.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror earlier this year, the 77-year-old said that she has been diagnosed with age-related macular degeneration (AMD), one of the leading causes of sight loss in the western world, which affects millions of people.
According to the actress, her vision has worsened to the point where she has to have friends and family read out scripts for new productions and learn them by ear.
However, Dame Judi will once again tread the broads in London this autumn, when she plays an ageing Alice in Wonderland in a new, as-yet untitled play by John Logan, who co-wrote the new James Bond film Skyfall.
After revealing she was suffering from AMD in February, the actress was keen to stress that it would not spell the end of her acting career.
"This condition is something that thousands and thousands of people all over the world are having to contend with. It's something that I have learnt to cope with and adapt to," she said.
