Wearing contact lenses "is perfectly safe"

People who are apprehensive about wearing contact lenses have been advised that the transition to the vision correction solution is perfectly safe and very easy, as long as they follow the guidelines.

According to cornea specialist Dr JoAnn Chang, from D'Ambrosio eyecare, wearing contact lenses is safe in the majority of environments, though patients need to exhibit caution when wearing them while participating in water-related activities.

She told the Digital Journal that it is important not to be lackadaisical when it comes to wearing contacts while swimming, taking a shower or using a Jacuzzi or spa.

"If you follow some simple guidelines you can have a very safe contact lens wearing experience," Dr Chang noted.

Recently, Dr Leslie Doctor, from Doctor & Associates, a founding member of the Wilton Surgery Center, noted that contact lenses enable people to take part in many different sporting activities that would be uncomfortable or even impossible in glasses, but swimming is not one of them.
