Wearing contact lens is effective and trouble-free as long as people follow a few simple tips, one expert has noted.
Optometrist Dr Sheri McGurk told WNDU.com that the key thing to remember is that there is a good reason why manufacturers do not advise keeping contacts in for longer than the recommended wear time.
"You're playing Russian roulette there. By the time that we can feel that they feel uncomfortable, we've gone about four or five days too long," she added.
Another common contact lens faux pas is to follow an incorrect cleaning and storage procedure - something that can be avoided through following manufacturer recommendations, Dr McGurk told the website.
This means only ever using contact lens solution to clean and store them and never using a substitute, as even tap water contains potentially harmful bacteria.
As long as this advice is adhered to, people should have few, if any, problems with their contacts, the expert concluded.
