Contact lens wearers offered holiday eyecare tips

People who wear contact lenses have been offered some tips to ensure they do not encounter any issues this summer and benefit from crystal clear vision.

For those heading away on holiday, Silver Surfer Today advised that people who read a lot should try the 20-20-20 rule, which means looking away from the page every 20 minutes, 20 feet in front of them, for 20 seconds.

While on the plane, people who sometimes experience dry eye due to the air conditioning should use "rewetting" drops to moisten them, but ensure they are suitable for use with contacts.

The source also advised: "Consider prescription sunglasses and prescription swimming goggles. Just ensure they are good quality and UV-blocking. UV radiation is one of the risk factors associated with cataracts and other eye conditions."

It added that people should also drink plenty of fresh water – at least two litres a day – to keep their eyes looking young and fresh and ensure their trip abroad goes without a hitch.
