Contact lenses continue to be the vision correction product of choice among people who regularly take part in sporting activities, a new report has revealed.
Nick Dash, an optometrist from Visual Edge Optometrists, said a major reason for this is that contact lenses offer 'freedom' and all-round more natural vision.
He noted that research has established that over a quarter of patients who chose contact lenses reported sports as a primary motivating factor.
The expert said that contact lenses are also a safe alternative to glasses in many sports, as they offer peripheral vision, which can often mean people have a better perception of their environment and so are less likely to suffer injury.
Mr Dash added that contact lens wearers are not blinkered by spectacle frames and do not risk the spectacles falling off, misting up or breaking.
"For this reason are the choice of sport enthusiasts and those with an active lifestyle," the specialist said.
