People who regularly take part in sporting activities may find that contact lenses can help to enhance their performance, one expert has pointed out.
Many people who require vision correction find that glasses are inconvenient and even dangerous when worn during sport, but this does not have to be the case, according to Gavin Rebello, sports vision specialist at @eye_performance.
He said the best eye correction for sport is generally contact lenses, because glasses slide down the face as people get hot, and they can steam up and bounce around if people are running.
"contact lenses give athletes or anyone taking part in things such as aerobics classes a much better practical vision. They stay on the eye and they give you an all-round vision," the expert said.
"Modern contact lenses are safe to wear - they are soft, they are really comfortable and they can't get lost behind the eye - so they tend to work well for those doing sports, not including water-based sports."
Another advantage is that people can effectively "dip in and dip out" of wearing them, as modern day lenses are immediately comfortable, so within a few seconds of wearing them, they don't feel like they are present.
Daily contact lenses are the most popular, because they work with busy lifestyles, making them ideal for those with limited time to exercise, he said.
"You can wear your glasses during your office days and then slip into contact lenses for exercise, putting them straight in the bin when you have finished - or keep them in longer if you are out with friends afterwards," Mr Rebello suggested.
Just like people need the right kit for their sport, contact lenses can be almost part of the kit, in order to get the best out of the activity, he added.
