While many people believe the future of augmented reality would come with high-tech glasses or a smartphone, scientists are working on contact lenses that could change the way people see the world.
Innovega is developing the iOptik lens that will enable wearers to see a superimposed, virtual reality.
Furthermore, the contact lens will also be able to improve users' vision as they look at the real world around them.
The contact lens uses nanotechnology in order to allow the viewer to see both reality and the superimposed information coming from the internet, or another source.
Users are also given a pair of glasses which can be used to see extra data. However, without the contact lenses, the data projected onto the glasses is fuzzy - the contact lens refines the augmented information.
Another advantage of the lenses is that they allow users an interrupted field of vision, unlike many other companies, whose products need goggles to refine the information coming through.
